Flashbacks aren't the exact thing the other characters hear though.
Also "lusting" is such a vague idea of what the character goes through, it's easy to say shit like that when we're trapped in Tripp's perspective. What exactly has Jim seen or interacted from Tripp that counts as "omg you treat others just like how you don't want to be treated".
No, y'all consider it hypocrisy because we see both what he wants to like and be like and what he experienced and disliked. A bad relationship and the pain of someone devaluing him must be the same thing as looking up and being eager but reeling back and avoiding others and trying to hide your secrets?
Lusting just sounds like a dang word that mixes up two concepts. Being attracted toward someone and pursuing someone. Tripp can't pursue out of a paper bag. Someone else hit on him. Let him be messy ffs.
